Future public meals
More than 3 million public meals are daily served in Sweden! In 2013 the Swedish public sector’s procurement of food amounted to 9.6 billion SEK, and this accounts for approximately 4% of the total Swedish food consumption.
This report is part of OpenUp’s foresight work 2014, aiming to inspire and stimulate actors within the food and packaging industries to become more innovative in their work with the public sector.
The report includes a number of issues that are considered to be important for the future public sector (with a special focus on Sweden), as well as a couple of intriguing suggestions of what might be the next thing in this sector. The report is completed with a number of conclusive challenges that we (= the public sector, business community, academia and private individuals) will need to solve together!

Increasing e-commerce, urbanisation and consumer power are only a few of the many challenges that the retail sector and all related actors are facing within the next couple of years. However, with challenges come possibilities and those actors that accept the challenges have the possibility of becoming very successful.
OpenUp’s first foresight study is on the theme Future Retail. The results of the report are based on in-depth interviews with Swedish food retailers and an analysis of retail related material, publications and events.
